“One major concern was the information we read in pharmacy journals about medication errors. With ScriptPro barcode scanning, we got the control over medication errors we were looking for.”

ScriptPro President and CEO, Michael E. Coughlin, has presented a pharmacy industry perspective on the importance of barcodes.
This presentation to the FDA is one way in which ScriptPro has been proactive in its efforts to advance medication dispensing safety and compliance through the use of pharmacy automation.
SUMMARY
Recommendations for the Development of a Regulation on Barcode Labeling for Human Drugs, Including Biologic Products.
Major challenges in the pharmacy industry, including the pharmacist shortage, increased patient wait times, and reduced time for counseling--are all exacerbated by lack of regulated barcodes.
Medication errors related to drug dispensing and use can be minimized through systems that operate in conjunction with improved barcodes on drug products and related medical supplies.
One of the most important steps government can take to help the pharmacy industry cope with the burgeoning workload and avoid dispensing errors is to clean up the identification system for drug products and implement barcode standards.
