ScriptPro Says NO to Exclusive Provider Relationships

“What switch do I have to use with your pharmacy management system?”
ScriptPro's response to that question is, “It's up to you.”

ScriptPro's robotic technology was well received in 1994 as a solution to manually counted prescriptions, errors that were made, and pressure on the people doing this job. Our customers encouraged us to expand our product offering and over the next decade we developed a workflow system and, ultimately, a pharmacy management system including point of sale, IVR, and telepharmacy.

As we progressed in the development of our pharmacy management system, we learned that many pharmacy software vendors earn substantial profits by creating exclusive partnerships with switching services and data providers. A few operate their own switch and data centers. Others are owned by companies in that business.

Many software vendors treat their pharmacy management systems primarily as vehicles to earn profits from the daily transactions of their customers.

Typical strategies of other software vendors are to:

1. Provide enough operational capability to keep customers from leaving.

2. Earn profits from marking up switch transactions and selling data.

3. Bundle technology with wholesaler drug sales contracts.

So many pharmacies are strapped with legacy systems, or look-alike replacements that focus on switching services, data collection, and supply chain control. Software vendors have been creatively enhancing transaction revenues through multiple channels instead of making the substantial investments required to develop and support a new generation of systems.

Exclusive and proprietary relationships between software vendors and product and service providers are a detriment to pharmacy owners and to the industry as a whole. They divert the focus of software vendors from meeting the operational requirements of their customers, and they prevent pharmacy managers from comparing and obtaining products and services that meet their business needs at the best price.

ScriptPro has taken a different approach and does not enter into exclusive relationships with product and service providers. Our customers are free to evaluate and select their business partners just as they did when they selected ScriptPro as their provider of pharmacy technology.

ScriptPro will provide connectivity to any willing service provider. We enable our customers to get the best pricing by contracting directly with the service providers of their choice, without any software vendor markups or kickbacks to ScriptPro.

The only exception to vendor selection flexibility is the requirement to utilize Rx Linc for SureScripts® electronic prescribing transactions. This is due to SureScripts’ requirement that each software vendor have a single certified path to its processing center. As long as that requirement is in place, our customers must contract with Rx Linc to process SureScripts transactions. ScriptPro will not earn any revenues through its relationship with Rx Linc.
