Happy Harry’s Discount Drug Stores Saves Labor Costs with ScriptPro Robotic Prescription Dispensing Systems
Newark, DE-- Happy Harry’s Discount Drug Stores, a chain of 73 stores located in four states, is installing ScriptPro Robotic Prescription Dispensing Systems to remedy a pharmacist shortage at many locations and ensure pharmacy staff has time to maintain the chain’s strong relationship with its customers. In the process, Happy Harry’s has saved one-half to one full pharmacist’s time per store.
Happy Harry’s, headquartered in Newark, Delaware, fills 65 percent of all the prescriptions in the state of Delaware. Jack Murphy, Vice President of Pharmacy at Happy Harry’s, attributes the chain’s strong market share to a service philosophy that places importance on keeping the small-town, corner drug store, friendly atmosphere.
A national shortage of pharmacists initially motivated management to evaluate pharmacy dispensing automation.
“Our relationship with our customers is very strong and that's our major advantage over our competition. But the pharmacist shortage caused us to look at our customer service levels, and in stores where we were short staffed, we had difficulty finding the time to provide the customer services we're known for,” said Murphy.
The first installation was in Laurel, Delaware. The pharmacists at this location were inundated and really needed the help of a third pharmacist. However, the chain could not find another pharmacist in the area and couldn't recruit anyone to move to Laurel.
Murphy says that installing the SP 200 in the Laurel pharmacy allows the pharmacists at this location to “survive”. ScriptPro’s SP 200 automatically fills 50 percent or more of the prescriptions. The store is thriving, and the pharmacists are talking to customers - not stuck behind the counter counting pills.
“ScriptPro’s robotic dispensing systems, SP 200 and SP 100, really relieve the staffing shortage by providing the time our pharmacists need to live up to our legacy of customer service,” Murphy added.
“Our goal with ScriptPro is to make the systems work in areas where we have a pharmacist shortage so we can free up our pharmacists to be in the aisles talking to our customers,” Murphy said. “We are absolutely convinced we save a minimum of one-half of a pharmacist’s time, sometimes up to a full pharmacist.”
According to Murphy, the savings on staffing directly benefits the Return on Investment (ROI). “Saving the salary on one-half to a full pharmacist means the ROI is very quick.”
Murphy states that an important reason for choosing ScriptPro as the pharmacy automation company for Happy Harry’s is the support staff provided by ScriptPro.
“The biggest selling point for ScriptPro is its customer service. They wrap themselves around a problem and solve it just as we do in our stores,” says Murphy.
