ScriptPro has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with Xelios Biometrics in which Xelios will supply biometric authentication technology to be used in the ScriptPro pharmacy automation and management systems.
“We believe biometric authentication is the simplest and most powerful way to implement controls over pharmacy processes,” said Mike Coughlin, CEO of ScriptPro.
“We have tested a number of technologies in this area and feel that Xelios has taken this method to a new level of speed and accuracy.”
Biometric identifiers, such as fingerprints, are distinctive, measurable characteristics that can be used to identify individuals, and, according to a press release issued by the two companies, biometric identifiers are more reliable in verifying identity than ID cards or PIN codes.
Xelios Biometrics will be used during the prescription dispensing process to identify authorized pharmacy staff and track and store information about who handles a prescription. The goal is to provide ScriptPro customers with a biometric alternative to replace ID cards and PIN codes currently in use, the company noted.
It is an exciting time in the pharmacy industry and we are excited to be at the forefront of development.
